Having the Fluke Connect will help create the ideal image, it can be saved and uploaded into the Fluke Connect Cloud then can be updated and edited with SmartView a desktop application. I would encourage looking into the TiS10 and models above. It helps with troubleshooting temperature for ceiling diffusers, duct leakage, exposed areas of hydronic piping. Areas that cannot be reached. I enjoy the Picture in Picture feature and timestamps.
It has also increased approvals for many jobs. Excellent tool! I purchased it for diagnostic use in the automobile repair industry. I have used it for much more than I thought I would. This is very much a Fluke product, high quality, and impeccable accuracy. Easy to use after you use it a couple of times. Price aside, the TIS20 is a four-star product. That's why I rate it three stars overall. However, it might be a good value to you depending on your needs, so I'd like to explain what I like and dislike about it.
In a dedicated thermal imager like the TIS20, I tend to focus on four things: 1 quality and usefulness of the IR images, 2 ease of transferring images off of the device, 3 ease of use and features in the company's software to manipulate the images, and 4 suitability of the device for use in a work environment including how sturdy it is and battery life. My guess is that if you're shopping for the TiS20, you're doing it for a work environment and aren't just shopping for a hobbyist tool.
For a work site, the One might be great if you don't need something super rugged I do suggest also checking out the FLIR C2 camera, which also has rugged construction at a much lower cost, but it does have less IR resolution 80x60 than this model and doesn't have all of the options like WiFi that you get with the TIS While I sincerely applaud and appreciate the build quality of this Fluke, as well as the connectivity options, I struggle to justify the price of this model even for a work environment.
Fundamentally, that comes down to the combination of IR resolution and limited "IR-Fusion" capability. The TIS20 has good options to transfer data off of it, including wired and wireless, and the software is pretty good although for Windows only, as there is no Mac version like FLIR offers.
Overall good images, with the convenient spectrum bar on the side and point measurement with crosshairs. Images suffer from the same sort of "noise" that other uncooled sensors in this price range have, so I don't knock if for having it, but I mention it so that you're prepared. There is no manual focus on this model, and the listed minimum focal length is about half a foot.
When trying to view objects closer up, that becomes noticeable. Viewing images from a distance, like checking out temperature gradients in a wall, works really well. Checking out hots spots in electronics is more difficult with the lack of focus.
The temperature range is quite good, though, at -4 to degrees F or to degrees C. That temperature range is great for electronics, as well as a lot of construction and industrial use.
This rating is based on how well it blends the images, and also how well you can adjust the alignment of the IR and visual images. If you've never seen this done before, the TIS20 will be very impressive. First, advertising three IR-Fusion presets is true, but misleading if you ask me. Well, no, it can't. With the TIS20, the visual content is so high that it can wash out some of the thermal data.
I used this side by side with my C2, and I always preferred the blending on the C2. Next is the limited ability to align the IR and visual images their are two separate sensors, and you need to align them in order for the two images to overlap correctly.
The TIS20 lets you adjust the alignment they call is parallax with more precision than the C2 does it has preset distances that you select , but it suffers from the same issue as the C2 in that you can't align images that are very close to the unit. FLIR's One is far superior in this area, with a nice slider bar on the app to let you fine tune alignment at closer distances. Fluke offers their Fluke Connect app for iOS and Android devices, and they offer both free and purchased software for Windows-based computers.
Plus, if you use an optional micro SD memory card, you can just pull that out and transfer files to a computer. I have to admit up front that I haven't delved into their software fully, so my rating is based on my initial use of it.
